Biography

J. B. Dobkin

J. B. Dobkin (1922-2018) was Assistant Director in the Department of Rare Books and Special Collections at the University of Toronto, Director of Special Collections at the University of Florida, Director of Libraries at Arizona State University, and Special Collections Librarian at the University of South Florida, where he retired in 1988. He served for many years as Executive Secretary of the Florida Historical Society, had been both President and Vice President of the Florida Bibliophile Society, Chairman of the Pinellas County Public Library Cooperative Board, and President of the Largo Library Foundation. After retiring, he built the genealogy collection at the Largo Library into one of the largest in Florida. He has published numerous articles on juvenile literature in collectors magazines and bibliographic publications. He had served as volunteer librarian at Heritage Village since 1996, and was Chief of the Tampa Book Arts Studio Library Collections.
